Frequently Asked Questions
There are several things you need to consider before choosing a fence contractor in Westchester County, New York for repairs or replacements. At Aguirre’s Fence Corp., we are committed to help you make the right decision for your fencing needs.
Q: How do I decide what kind of fence I need?
A: First you need to determine what you require of a fence. Do you want to achieve privacy, provide safety around a pool, and retain pets or children? Maybe you have industrial needs requiring extra strength and durability. What is your desired look and location for the fence? Fences are available in many different materials and styles. We can explain the advantages and disadvantages of various materials and their suitability for your job.
Q: What do I need to know about local codes for fences?
A: Building codes for fences vary by state, county, city, and even subdivisions. You can contact your city's zoning department to determine exactly what the restrictions are. Codes determine easements, heights, styles, and material types. Our experienced design consultants are very familiar with most local codes and can assist with compliance.
Q: What kind of fence materials do you use?
A: Fence materials can be used alone or in combination with others. Wood has a natural look with many different styles to choose from. We offer residential and industrial chain-link fence. Aluminum, vinyl-coated chain-link fence is very popular and comes in a variety of colors to blend with the environment.
Q: I am considering a wood fence, what is the difference between spruce and cedar?
A: There are many differences between spruce and cedar. Life expectancy is the major difference. On average, a spruce fence will last 8 to 10 years. However, cedar fencing will average 18 to 23 years. In addition, cosmetics play a differentiating role in spruce and cedar.
Spruce is almost white when it comes from the mills and tends to have more knots. Cedar has a much darker tone, and although cedar also has knots, they tend to be sparser and larger in nature. Cedar is also known to repel fleas and other insects. Ask one of our design consultants for further information.
